A few months ago I released my own Linux based OS. I called it ProxLinux and it was based on Lubuntu 11.10.
It had a specially built right click menu, theme and used the lightweight and visually stunning tint2 panel.
ProxLinux 2 is just around the corner and is based on a minimal install of Ubuntu with the Razor QT desktop environment and Openbox window manager. This will be a lightweight and snappy OS with a never seen before spin with the Razor QT DE installed as default.
You can download or find out more about ProxLinux 1 along at www.proxlinux.co.uk. I’ll be moving all the content from there over to this blog as I can’t afford the domain renewal fees.
I hope people will be interested in giving ProxLinux 2 a go or as I call it ‘Ubuntu Razor’. This is how the first release looked:
The second release will be a lot brighter and completely different. I’ll post more details soon!

Point Dot TK to Tumblr
I use free domains for a lot of projects, I have a lot of paid domains like .com ones etc but wont be renewing them, apart from the one for this blog.
I’ve decided to use free domains for another blog and other sites. A good free domain is a Dot TK one because it’s a TLD. But pointing a .tk domain to your Tumblr blog can cause problems as the Dot TK system doesn’t seem to accept the new Tumblr IP after the Engineers updated their systems.
Alternatively you can point your Dot TK domain to the old Tumblr IP, meaning your Dot TK DNS settings should look like this (these are A records):
After waiting some time for the changes to propagate across the internet (typically a few hours) visit your domain and it should display a ‘Tumblr, page not found’ page.
After this head along to your blog settings and hit apply custom domain and then save, even if the ‘test your domain’ button tells you it should be pointing to 66.6.44.4. After saving your domain will be pointing to your blog!
It seems the Dot TK system doesn’t like the new Tumblr IP, but for now, the old one still works. I’ve contacted Dot TK about this problem and asked them to fix it, I’ll keep everyone updated.
EDIT: Since contacting Dot TK about this problem last night they have resolved this problem and you can now use the IP instructed by Tumblr. You can thank me later :P
Love it!

I was a big Windows user when I was a kid but after getting my own hardware and using XP for a while I discovered the world of Linux. My XP machine died and I was left with older hardware that was no good with Windows.
It was here I started exploring Linux, first Ubuntu, then others based on Ubuntu and eventually I’d tried out hundreds. I used it for a good part of 4 years and learnt a lot, I even build my own distro.
It was in Christmas 2011 that I got my new laptop pre-installed with Windows 7 and I loved it! I decided to give it a chance I mean hey, let’s not be narrow minded, right? I fell in love with Windows 7 and 4 months later after a crash decided it was time to dive back into the Linux world and download Ubuntu 12.04 hoping that Unity would have improved.
I downloaded Ubuntu and gave it a shot but it was too buggy and had too much Unity in it, I tried Lubuntu, OpenSUSE, Fedora, Arch, Gentoo, Linux Mint, CentOS and many more but just couldn’t settle on one! I decided as a compromise to install Cinnamon on my Ubuntu system but it lagged like nothing on earth, especially after how well Windows 7 ran on it!
I tried a number of Ubuntu based distro but it appeared Ubuntu had messed things up and they were all very buggy but couldn’t find anything else to satisfy my needs. It seems either the Linux world has taken a nosedive in the 4 months that I wasn’t using it or I’ve just gotten bored with it and fell in love with Windows 7. Whatever it is I’m typing this from my Windows 7 Ultimate laptop but am still developing my own distro!
A lot of ideas going around, it’ll be based on Ubuntu or Lubuntu with probably Fluxbox, LXDE or Razor-QT installed. Of which one I’ve still to decide! I’ll keep you updated!
So I deleted my blog so I could focus on a side project! ProxLinux! www.proxlinux.co.uk
I’ve decided to re-open my blog and start from scratch as all my domains are up for renewal I’ll only be renewing one of them - krismaguire.com so will need to host all of my sites from the blog now.
More posts to come just like before!
Hi there my name's Kristopher Maguire and I'm 19 from the UK.
I enjoy spending time with friends and family, using computers, listening to music and geeking out!
You could see anything here from a technical Linux review all the way to an angry rant about the bus being late that same day. Stay tuned!
